Fila

The brief

Once again FILA and IPOS joined forces to create an impactful retail statement for the launch of their newest range called FILA Explore. The collection was able to combine the spirit of adventure, sports, and style in a limited-edition line, which took a colourful, fresh take on the outdoor-wear trend.

The range was to be sold online and in key locations around the U.K., two of which included the Selfridges stores in Birmingham and Manchester. IPOS were faced with a challenge to create an engaging in-store space that was functional, captured the sense of fun seen in the product and worked within the retailer’s strict guidelines of the rental space.

The process

The studio started this task by looking at the history behind the collection. Back in 1978, Reinhold Messner, a world-famous mountaineer, broke records as he summited Mount Everest without using supplemental oxygen, all whilst kitted out in Fila apparel.

This story led to the Explore collection which was divided into four categories: Canyon, Woods, Mountains, and Elements, each with their own visual identity. Drawing on this the studio researched each area and combined the findings into the final displays.

The outcome

The final outcomes used organic curves to emulate the topographic lines seen on traditional maps, clear acrylic rods as a nod to running water and layered shelving referencing the layers of explorers clothing. Simultaneously being juxtaposed to the bold, iridescent colours used throughout the display.

The integrated use of clothing rails and ample shelving space, sitting alongside styled mannequins allowed for the ‘see it, buy it’ theory converting browsers to buyers in a frictionless journey.
